I'm Jen Upson, a counsellor and clinical supervisor based in Garmouth, offering a thoughtful, confidential space where you can explore all aspects of your self and the world you inhabit.
Sessions are available in person and online across the UK and beyond.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or noticing patterns in your life or relationships that you want to understand more clearly.
Or, you may have a clear understanding of what you would like to be different and be looking for a more structured approach to change.
Counselling offers a space to slow down and reflect. Together we can explore what has shaped your experiences, how you relate to yourself and others, and what might support meaningful change.
Whether you are looking for support in a time of upset and overwhelm, change or self-development, I can work with you to meet your individual needs.
I offer a thoughtful, non-judgemental environment where you can speak openly and begin to make sense of things at your own pace.
People often bring issues such as:
Neurodivergence
Some people come while exploring whether they may be neurodivergent, others as they begin to understand themselves through that lens.
For many, this can involve re-thinking past experiences, relationships, identity and ways of navigating the world. Counselling can offer a reflective space to explore these questions and what they may mean for you.
Many people seek support whether they have a formal diagnosis, are waiting for assessment, or are simply beginning to reflect on their experiences.
Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control
Some people come to counselling because they are experiencing, or beginning to question, patterns of control, manipulation or emotional harm within a relationship.
Coercive control can be difficult to recognise while it is happening, and many people find themselves feeling confused, doubting their own perceptions, or losing confidence in their sense of self.
Counselling can offer a confidential and supportive space to talk about these experiences, make sense of what has happened, and begin to rebuild safety, autonomy and self-trust.
I offer a calm and reflective space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. Our work may involve gently making sense of events, changes, relationships and the ways you have learned to respond to the world.
My core training is in person-centred counselling, which places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the work. Through this relationship, you can begin to trust that you will be heard and held. I am there to attune to you and really try to understand how it is to be you in your world. Aspects of my role may include gently bringing your attention to elements of your experience which may not yet be in your awareness, highlighting possible connections and voicing unspoken pieces of the puzzle for you to consider. I am not there as an expert on your experience, but rather to support your process of getting to know yourself better and finding your way through.
Over time, I have developed an integrated, trauma-informed approach, drawing on different perspectives and therapeutic modalities to support a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. I am interested in how awareness, reflection and, at times, creativity support meaningful change.
Through this process, many people begin to feel clearer, more grounded, and better able to make choices that feel right for them. This may involve noticing patterns, finding new ways of responding, gradually making choices that feel more aligned with who you are, and feeling more connected to yourself and what feels right. People often find they are able to offer themself more compassion and understanding over time which reduces inner conflict and supports greater contentment.
I work in a collaborative and responsive way, recognising that each person's experience is unique so this process will be different for everyone.
I offer a number of ways of working depending on your needs, whether you are seeking individual counselling, supervision, or a space to reflect more deeply.
Individual Counselling
I offer one-to-one counselling for adults and young people, providing a consistent and supportive space to explore what is happening in your life, whether that relates to emotional wellbeing, past experiences, relationships or current challenges.
We can work together at a pace that feels right for you, with time to reflect, make sense of your experiences, and consider what might support change.
This work may be reflective, exploratory and, at times, gently challenging, depending on what feels helpful for you.
Online Counselling
I offer online sessions for those who are unable to attend in person or prefer the flexibility of working remotely.
Online counselling offers the same reflective and confidential space, and can be a helpful option for fitting therapy around work, family life or location.
Extended Therapeutic Space
In early 2025, I piloted a new opportunity, offering extended sessions to individuals exploring aspects of themselves in relation to their creative work. This format was positively received and feedback evidenced that the longer sessions enabled deeper work to take place. Sessions can be planned together during our first meeting.
Clinical Supervision
Supervision provides a reflective space to think about your client work, develop your understanding, and support you in your ongoing practice.
I offer clinical supervision for counsellors and other helping professionals at every stage of their development, including trainees, newly qualified practitioners and those with more established practice.
I work with practitioners across different roles and settings within organisations, bringing a broader understanding of both individual practice and organisational context. I bring an awareness of how the wider context can shape both client work and practitioner experience.
I trained at Strathclyde University in 2011 in both individual and group supervision approaches and utilise an Integrated model of supervision.
I am a Registered Individual Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and as such, I abide by its Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I am also an Accredited Member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

I offer sessions:
Standard counselling and supervision sessions are 50 minutes and currently cost £60.
I offer a small number of reduced-fee spaces where needed.
Extended therapeutic sessions are priced on an individual basis.
I also offer a brief initial call if you would like to talk things through before booking.
